PKR's Fahmi Fadzil emerges victorious after a neck-and-neck battle with Raja Nong Chik for Lembah Pantai


KUALA LUMPUR: PKR’s Fahmi Fadzil (pic) has emerged victorious after a neck-and-neck battle with Barisan Nasional's Datuk Seri Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin for the Lembah Pantai parliamentary seat in GE14.

At 7pm on Wednesday (May 9), Raja Nong Chik was leading by 3,000 votes, however, by 8.30pm, Fahmi overtook him by 5,000 votes.

According to official announcement from returning officer Salim Mansur.

Fahmi won by a 5,598 majority, after receiving 33,313 votes, while Raja Nong Chik garnered 27,715 votes. PAS candidate Fauzi Abu Bakar received 5,277 votes.

“Allhamdulillah" (thank God) was Fahmi’s response when asked to comment on his win.

Lembah Pantai has 80,346 voters and for GE14, 67,059 voters cast their ballots with 83% turnout.

This time around, Fahmi’s majority was higher compared to the 2013 general election when Nurul Izzah beat Raja Nong Chik by a 1,848 majority.

It was Fahmi’s first time contesting in a general election.
