AN 11-year-old boy from Lahat, Perak, drowned while trying to retrieve a ball from a sewage treatment pond, Tamil Nesan reported.
The SJK(T) Taman Desa Pinji pupil was reportedly playing with friends in the evening when the ball accidentally landed on the pond, which has a high wall surrounding it.
While trying to retrieve it, the boy fell in and was unable to get out.
A passer-by managed to save him and rushed him to hospital, but he died on the way.
The boy, identified as S. Thanushraj, lost his father seven years ago and was living with his mother, a factory worker, and grandparents.
