ALOR SETAR: Malaysia will not go bankrupt as claimed by the Opposition, said Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Lee Chee Leong.
He said the country has US$100bil (RM428bil) of international reserves and its foreign investments were increasing yearly.
Lee also said the country achieved a double-digit growth in exports in the second quarter of this year.
“It is impossible for Malaysia to go bankrupt,” he said in his speech when opening the Kedah Wanita MCA annual delegates meeting here on Friday.
Lee, who is MCA vice-president and Kedah MCA liaison committee chairman, said Opposition parties such as the DAP had been making baseless allegations, especially on education issues and allocation to Chinese schools to discredit the party.
“In 2017, the Government allocated some RM2.8bil in administration aid to Chinese schools of which a portion was used to pay the salaries of teachers.
“From 2014 to 2017, the Government distributed special allocations for the maintenance of schools amounting to RM50mil,” he added.
On party matters, Lee urged MCA leaders and members in the state to stay united to face the next general election.
“All members must give full support to the candidates picked to contest in the election. We cannot afford to lose anymore,” he said.
Some 135 delegates from 15 divisions in the state attended the meeting.
Also present were Wanita MCA chief Senator Datuk Heng Seai Kie and Kedah Wanita MCA chief Tan Yang Chu.
