PUTRAJAYA: An aide to the Selangor Mentri Besar was questioned for five hours by the anti-graft body over a media statement he made on the Universiti Selangor (Unisel) corruption probe.
Yin Shao Loong, who is Datuk Seri Azmin Ali’s strategic communications director, was summoned to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here to give a statement yesterday.
He arrived at about 10am and left around 3.30pm. “I was not informed of the reason when I received a summons letter on Monday.
“Later, I found out it was in regard to a statement I issued in my capacity as the press officer in response to the MACC raids on MBI (Menteri Besar Incorporated) and Unisel.
“I was asked to repeat the contents of my statement, which they have read in the press,” he said.
Yin also claimed that he was queried over a tweet that he made earlier in the morning, in which he took a photo of the summons letter.
“I was asked to explain the reason behind my tweet. I told them it was up to me as it’s my private account,” he said.
“My media statement is in public record, so there is nothing to retract,” he said.
In his statement issued last week, Yin said Azmin was not personally involved in an agreement between Unisel and Jana Niaga Sdn Bhd currently being probed by the MACC.
On Monday, the MACC also called in former Selangor mentri besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and Datuk Nik Suhaimi Nik Sulaiman to record their statements.
Nik Suhaimi is a board member of Pendidikan Industri YS Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the state-owned investment arm Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Bhd.
MBI had allegedly made payments to Jana Niaga via two transactions of RM10mil and RM6mil in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
Initial reports received by the MACC showed that MBI had paid Jana Niaga even though its contract had been terminated by Unisel.
