KUCHING: An inspector is among six police personnel in Sarawak who have been arrested for alleged extortion.
State CID head SAC Datuk Dev Kumar said they were picked up at their homes and places of work in Kuching, Padawan and Lundu late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.
"The arrests came after two individuals lodged police reports in Batu Kawa and Sematan alleging that this group of rogue policemen had extorted money from them," he said in a statement.
SAC Dev said one of the suspects was a 53-year-old inspector attached to an administration department at the state police headquarters.
The other five are lower rank policemen aged between 25 and 32 years, attached to various units in Kuching police district headquarters.
The cases are being investigated as extortion under Section 384 of the Penal Code, SAC Dev said.
