GEORGE TOWN: The three-month validity period of the temporary personal identification document issued by the National Registration Department (NRD) may be reduced to a month to encourage Malaysians to claim their MyKad sooner.

Its director-general Datuk Mohd Yazid Ramli said the department was considering reducing the validity period of the temporary document as many MyKad applicants did not show urgency in collecting their new cards.
