Wisma Putra: No Malaysians involved in Mecca suicide bombing

PETALING JAYA: No Malaysians were involved in Friday's suicide bombing in Mecca, said the Foreign Ministry on Saturday.

"To date, there are no Malaysians involved in the attack," said the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said it will continue to monitor the developments in the country through the Malaysian consulate-general in Jeddah.

Malaysians in Saudi Arabia can contact the consulate number at 00966126727740 and 00966126728019 or email mwjeddah@klm.gov.my for emergencies or information.

The incident -  which happened around the Grand Mosque -  had injured 11 people including five Saudi Arabian police officers.

The ministry also expressed its sympathies to the Saudi Arabian government, its people and families of those involved in the attack.

It said the terrorist attack was even more tragic as it happened during the holy month of Ramadan.

"Terrorism is a global threat and the attack in Mecca once again demonstrates the importance of uniting the international community," it said.
