Students among 22 nabbed in ops


IPOH: Four students were among 22 suspects detained under Op Samseng Jalanan by the Perak traffic police.

The operation started at 10.30pm on Saturday and ended at 5am yesterday with phase one conducted at the Dataran Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh and phase two at the Ipoh Selatan Toll Plaza (northbound).

Those detained were between seven and 27-years-old. They would be investigated under Section 42(1) Road Transport Act 1987 for illegal racing, said Perak traffic enforcement and investigation department deputy chief DSP Mohd Mahiri Hussin.

Nineteen summonses were issued at Data­ran Ipoh for numerous offences including speeding and obstructing traffic. Six motorcycles were seized. In the second phase of the operation, 34 sum­­­mon­ses were issued and 18 motorcycles seized.
