Report to cops if photos are fake, Zairil told

GEORGE TOWN: DAP leaders Zairil Khir Johari and Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud should make police reports to clear their names over the controversial photos that allegedly depict them, said Penang Gerakan.

Stating that personal affairs and private lives should be left alone, the party’s publicity bureau chief, Ooi Zhi Yi, nevertheless, said that the duo should make a report if the photos were fake.

“They have denied that they are the ones in the photographs and those images are fake.

“So, they should lodge a police report and let the police investigate,” Ooi said in a press conference at the Gerakan headquarters yesterday.

“However, if the pictures are real, they should state so once and for all.

“As we condemn gutter politics, we also hope that Zairil can clear the matter rather than drag it by claiming that it is politically-motivated,” he said.

State DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow said it was an attack on Zairil’s privacy and he had requested Zairil to handle the issue as soon as possible.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng declined to comment when asked.

He said he would issue a statement if he needed to comment on the issue.

“I have no comments for now,” he said.

On Tuesday, four pictures of a couple, said to resemble Zairil and Dyana Sofya circulated on social media.

The two were seen seated at a table in a restaurant with at least two other people.

However, Zairil, the Bukit Bendera MP, who is married with two young children, denied that it was him in the photos.

He described it as an attempt to “malign me with personal attacks”.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Dyana Sofya said it was the third personal attack on her in two months.

She said no matter who was in the photos or videos in which she was allegedly featured, these were privacy intrusions into that person’s life.
