Hamzah: Local products part of Malaysia's intellectual property

KUALA LUMPUR: Local products such as dodol and durians from a particular region - such as Durian Balik Pulau - are part of Malaysia's intellectual property, said Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

"Durian Balik Pulau indicates where a particular type of durian comes from. We do not want others coming forward from other places to say that they planted the durian trees first, as this would cause Durian Balik Pulau to lose its value,” he said.
