Record session as it goes on and on till 5.05am

THE Dewan Rakyat went on for almost 20 hours on Wednesday, ending only at 5.05am yesterday morning and setting a record as the longest Parliament session. It surpassed the old time of 4.25am.

Parliament was adjourned after the Tourism Tax Bill 2017, tabled by Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, was passed with a rousing majority.

In 2015, the Dewan Rakyat set a record then for the longest session when it was adjourned at 4.25am, surpassing the previous record of 3.21am.

When winding up the debate for the Bill, Nazri said revenue from Tourism Tax would be in the region of RM654.62mil if the overall occupancy rate for the 11 million “room night” in the country could achieve 60%. — Bernama
