Annuar: Laws meant for Muslims should be discussed in respectful manner

KUALA LUMPUR: Laws specifically intended for Muslims should be discussed in a manner respectful to the religion, said Umno supreme council member Tan Sri Annuar Musa (pic).

He said Pakatan Harapan's rejection of PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang's Private Member's Bill on hudud is disrespectful to Muslims.

"If it is about laws strictly related to Muslims and not for non-Muslims, which includes syariah courts, then it has to be discussed properly.

"The open rejection which is being unfairly made by these people (Pakatan Harapan) goes against the spirit of the King's Royal Address, which stated that Islam and its institutions should be respected," he said at the Parliament lobby Wednesday.

Annuar said there are many leaders in Pakatan Harapan who had earlier personally supported the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 or RUU 355.

But he said they are opposing it now because Pakatan Harapan had to accept the majority voice in their parties who do not want Hadi's Bill to proceed.

"That is the norm in Opposition parties, although many of them individually supported it earlier, now they merely follow their leader's instructions," he added.
