Call for thorough probe into abduction

PETALING JAYA: The Christian Federation of Malaysia is deeply concerned over the abduction and disappearance of Pastor Raymond Koh Keng Joo, who has been missing since Feb 13.

Its chairman Rev Dr Eu Hong Seng urged the police to conduct a quick and thorough investigation of the abduction and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“We pray for the prompt release of Pastor Raymond and for God to enlighten the hearts of his abductors to release him unharmed to his family,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Dr Eu acknowledged Koh’s efforts in helping communities and people in need, saying such work should not be threatened.

“The work of people of faith in such communities must be free from threats of violence and intimidation,” he said.

Koh, 62, was involved in church charity and community work with a group called Harapan Komuniti, which he founded more than 10 years ago.

Harapan Komuniti holds tuition classes for children and English lessons for adults.

In 2011, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) accused the group of preaching to Muslims after a raid on a thanksgiving and fund-raising dinner at the Damansara Utama Methodist Church.

Koh’s wife, Susanna Liew Sow Yoke, has said the family was prepared to offer a reward of up to RM10,000 for information leading to his safe return.

Liew, 61, also said the perpetrators were “no ordinary abductors”, describing them as masked men who took less than 60 seconds to execute the crime.

Witnesses said at least five masked men were involved.

According to a police report filed by Jonathan, Koh left his home here at about 10am on Feb 13.

He was driving a silver Honda Accord bearing licence plate number ST 5515 D.

The abduction happened in Jalan SS4b/10 here, less than 100m from the police housing complex.

CCTV footage also showed at least three black SUVs had stopped in the middle of the road.

However, the abduction was not properly captured by the camera.

The footage only showed the shuffling of feet with two SUVs moving away, followed by a light-coloured car believed to belong to Koh.

The third SUV was seen trailing them.
