Cops smash major forgery gang, ‘Lucky’ gets arrested

IPOH: Luck ran out for the Gang Tuah syndicate after the arrests of its leader and four members over forgery of documents including MyKads, passports and driving licences in Perak for several years.

Police arrested the 43-year-old leader who calls himself Tuah (Lucky) at a house in Taman Maju Rapat, Kampung Rapat here at about 4.30pm on Friday.

On Sunday, the police arrested another four people, including a post office clerk and a teacher, who are husband and wife.

Also arrested was a man who identified himself as a “Dato Seri Panglima”.

He had on him a fake driving licence, fake passport, two Rela Elite Squad cards and a “Former National Intelligence Association honorary member” card with his name.

State CID chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Gan Tian Kee said police had identified more syndicate members.

“We believe insiders and some government servants are also involved.

“Some of the materials used for forging the licences could only be obtained through those with connections,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

Police believed the suspects had been operating for several years now.

SAC Gan said the police also seized numerous forged MyKad, driving licences, road tax stickers and some original materials used for printing the licences and documents.

Also seized were a desktop computer set, laptop, two memory cards, two pen drives containing software to forge documents, laminating sheets and a medical chit booklet.

Several luxury cars were also seized.

“All are believed to be cloned cars as we can’t find information on them in the Road Transport Department’s system.”

He added that the police would continue to combat these syndicates to ensure that no more government documents were forged.

“We advise people not to be tempted by cheap offers or shortcuts to obtain these documents,” he added.
