Woman who wrote ‘babi’ on summons fined RM100

JOHOR BARU: For writing babi on a police summons, a single mother paid the price and was slapped with a maximum fine of RM100.

Tan Yeoh Foong, 53, pleaded guilty for writing the word on the police summons at Jalan Tun Abdul Razak at 8.55pm on Dec 13 with the intention of causing anger and public disturbance.

Tan was charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

She nodded when the charge was read to her in Chinese before magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Allias yesterday.

She was represented by Chuah Shyue Chien.

In pleading for a lighter sentence, Chuah said it was Tan’s first offence.

“She is a single mother with anemia, causing her to be emotionally unstable and weak.

“My client was also remanded in the lock up for two days and it had served her a lesson,” he said, adding that Tan felt remorseful and promised not to repeat it.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Mohd Nasir said her actions had disrupted the authorities from carrying out their duties.

In passing judgment, Mohd Azlan told Tan: “Don’t do it again.”
