IGP assures full probe into death threat against Maria

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has given the assurance that a full investigation will be made on the death threat made to Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah.

However, he was disappointed that she had allegedly tampered with the evidence which might hamper the investigation.

A day after being released from detention, Maria claimed that she and her family had received an envelope with a written message that said “Last warning, or else R.I.P”, along with a .45 bullet in it on Tuesday morning.

She held a press conference on the matter and showed the note and bullet to reporters.

“She has lodged a report so we will investigate. Next time, keep it (evidence) first. Don’t meddle. Give it to us to investigate. Don’t destroy the evidence. What are we to find now? The actual fingerprints may not be there. Only hers,” he said after launching a drive to increase the police cooperative’s members at the Bukit Aman police headquarters here yesterday.
