Maid accused of prostituting 13-year-old daughter

JOHOR BARU: A Malaysian woman working as a maid in Australia has been charged with prostituting her 13-year-old daughter.

A 47-year-old mother of three, denied committing the offence at a hotel in Jalan Tebrau here at about 9am on Sept 20 last year.

She faces a jail term of between three and 20 years, and a fine, if convicted.

Sessions court judge Kamarudin Kamsun did not grant bail and set Oct 9 for re-mention of the case.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Safiah Abdul Aziz objected to bail and asked the court to consider the seriousness of the crime, which involves a minor, the youngest daughter of the accused.

“If the accused is given bail, she could use her advantage as guardian to influence the case,” Safiah said.

In asking for bail, the mother, who was unrepresented, told the court that she needed to return to Australia where she works, to support her school-going children and unemployed husband. — Bernama
