Couple charged with murder of child

DUNGUN: A couple were charged in the magistrate’s court here with murdering the woman’s two-year-old sister.

Fathin Nur Athirah Sabarudin, 21, and her husband, Muhammad Hafiz I D Osmera, 21, were jointly charged yesterday with murdering Nadzirah Nur Safiah Sabarudin at No 5, Lot 1560, Jalan Tenggiri, Kam­pung Baru Tebing Tembah, Paka, Dun­­gun, between July 30 and Aug 29.

They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which was read together with Section 34 of the same code. No plea was recorded.

Magistrate Hazwanie Husain Bustari fixed Oct 9 for mention.

Muhammad Hafiz and Fathin Nur Athirah were represented by lawyer Hafizul Faris Che Razlan while deputy public prosecutor Mona Shazwani Kamarul Zaman appeared for the prosecution.

Nadzirah died on Aug 29, several hours after Fathin Nur Athirah took her to the Paka Health Clinic at 3.45pm.

The medical officer at the clinic noticed old and fresh wounds all over the toddler’s body, including on her face, head and legs, and lodged a police report. — Bernama
