Zahid: Government will thwart any threat to nation

TAWAU: The Government will thwart any threat to the nation, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic).

He added that the authorities would not hesitate to take action against anyone, including former leaders who were harbouring plans for Sabah to secede from Malaysia.

“We are also dealing with those involved in trans border crimes such as kidnap-for-ransom groups,” he said when launching the National Month celebrations and the Jalur Gemilang campaign here.

Dr Ahmad Zahid thanked the security forces under the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) for helping secure the borders along the state’s east coast.

“We will defend the nation’s sovereignty at all costs,” he said.

He added that Malaysians were more than capable of administering the country.

“That is why we reject any outside interference in the nation’s affairs,” said Dr. Ahmad Zahid.

He also reminded Malaysians that they should set aside any differences in political ideology when it came to national interests.

“We may have our differences but we must come together for our country,” Ahmad Zahid said to a cheering crowd of about 30,000 at the Tawau Municipal Council square.
