BAU: An apparent murder attempt here left a man severely injured with two shotgun pellets lodged in his head.
The incident reportedly occurred at 4pm on Tuesday, just hours after Sarawak PKR politician Bill Kayong was shot dead in Miri.
It is understood that the Bau victim and his friend had travelled in a lorry from Serian to buy raw black pepper.
As they arrived at Kampung Jugan and moved onto the road leading to the farm, the victim’s friend heard gunshots, and saw the victim slumped in the driver’s seat.
The friend then took over the lorry and took the unconscious 36-year-old to the hospital, where the police were alerted.
The man was later transported to the Intensive Care Unit of the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching for further treatment.
A news report quoting sources has claimed that the duo were carrying large amounts of cash with them at the time of the incident, but were unlikely to have been victims of a robbery attempt.
Another report said it was unclear who fired the rounds, and it is not known whether it was a stray shot, or was aimed at the duo.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
