Sabotage elements in myIMMs detected in 2010

KUALA LUMPUR: Elements of sabotage in the Malaysian Immigration System (myIMMs) were detected by the authorities way back in 2010.

Immigration Department director-general Datuk Sakib Kusmi said the covert activities had reached a serious level now and warranted stern action.

“We have identified the individuals involved but the investigation is still ongoing. The outcome will be announced when the time comes,” he said.

Without disclosing the number of individuals involved, Sakib said those responsible would be dealt with according to regulations stipulated for civil servants.

The Auditor-General’s 2015 Report in its first series stated that myIMMs, set up to support the Immigration Department’s main operation, was not functioning satisfactorily, impairing its objective.

The report said the biometric features of myIMMs, costing RM10.3mil, had been supplied and paid for but were not installed and used at entry points for the screening and identification of foreigners and Malaysians.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he believed the implementation of myIMMs was sabotaged. — Bernama
