Kindergarten operator fined for abusing dogs

KUALA LUMPUR: A kindergarten operator was fined RM4,000 by a magistrate’s court in Ampang for causing pain and suffering to a mixed breed dog and a Rottweiler.

Magistrate Mohamad Izwan Mohamed Nor ordered Zarina Laura Abdullah to be jailed six months if she did not pay the fine and also instructed her to pay the medical costs charged by the Kuala Lumpur Veterinary Services Department.

Mohamad Izwan meted out the sentence after Zarina Laura pleaded guilty to the charge yesterday.

The 53-year-old was charged with committing the offence at No 72, Lorong 2C, Taman Sri Ukay, Ampang, at about 12.30pm on Feb 16.

She was accused under Section 44(1)(d) of the Animal (Aamendment) Act 2013.

Based on the statement of facts, a team of enforcement officers from the department carried out inspection at Zarina Laura’s house and discovered that the two male dogs were neglected and unmanageable.

One of the canines also suffered from an injury.

The department’s prosecuting officer Hasiah Musa urged the court to impose a harsh sentence as the owner should not only provide food but also make sure the canines were in healthy condition.
