GEORGE TOWN: A motorcyclist was killed after he ploughed into a stalled lorry along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway.
J. Greedaren Jsu, 29, died on the spot during the 10.20pm accident on Saturday. George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the lorry driver, 30, had stopped the vehicle by the road shoulder after it broke down earlier.
He said the motorcyclist who was travelling towards the Penang Bridge then crashed into the back of the lorry.
“His death was certified by a medical doctor at the scene,” he said.
ACP Mior said both deceased and lorry driver had valid road tax discs and driving licences.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving, adding that the body was sent to the Penang Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
In Petaling Jaya, an 18-year-old female motorcyclist was killed after she was run over by a trailer on Middle Ring Road 2, near the Pandan Indah exit.
It is believed the trailer driver was unaware that he had run over the teenage girl who was riding in the left lane of the highway.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Hamzah Alias said the victim was heading home after she finished work at a shopping mall in Keramat.
A female friend was her pillion in the incident that happened at about 1.40am yesterday.
ACP Hamzah said police believe she lost control of the bike and fell before she was run over.
She died at the scene of the accident but her friend, also 18, survived with light injuries.
