Fun and frolicking for residents as border river dries up

Fun in the sun: Hawkers selling food and drinks as visitors relax at the Sungai Golok riverbed in Rantau Panjang.

RANTAU PANJANG: It’s the border between two countries and should be a place of high security. Instead, there was fun and frolicking for the residents here and across the border as Sungai Golok has receded to a mere stream.

During the long weekend, hundreds of people from both sides of the border came to the sandy site of the river to wade in the stream or idle by the riverbed with a picnic spread.
