IPOH: A 22-year-old university student was caught with more than 1kg of cocaine in his car.
A team from the Perak Tengah Narcotics Department arrested the man at the Billion shopping mall carpark in Seri Iskandar at about 2.45am yesterday after receiving a tip-off.
Officers searched the car and found the drugs under the driver’s seat.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the team also found 19 Erimine 5 pills and RM472 in the vehicle.
“The man is from Penang and the car is believed to belong to one of his family members.
“He tested positive for cocaine,” Comm Abdul Rahim said after attending the 46th anniversary of the Perak police cadets contingent yesterday.
The student has been remanded until May 4.
He is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
Comm Abdul Rahim also said the state crime index increased by 9% from last year, due to cases of theft, motorcycles in particular.
“The most serious cases were in Ipoh, Manjung and Taiping,” he added.
