SHAH ALAM: Thirteen detainees at the Sungai Buloh prison have been charged in a magistrate’s court with the murder of a fellow detainee during a gang fight.
According to the charge, which was read to them yesterday, the men allegedly killed Ram Kumar Govindasamy, 25, during an illegal gathering between 12.45pm and 1pm on April 16.
The crime was purportedly committed at Cell 51, on the second floor of the third wing of Block Abadi 2 at the prison.
In the dock were Mohd Iszaruddin Ismail, 35; Mohd Zaki Shaari, 30; Noridil Fitri Nordin, 31; Noor Fadzlee Zizan, 24; Saphian Dahlan, 34; Muhamad Mustaqim Anas Yanannta, 24; Mohd Rajis Abdul Rahim, 33; Muhammad Faizal Mahemod, 33; Mohd Hashim Mohd Daud, 33; Mohd Basiran Mohd Bharuddin, 27; Ahmad Hanafi Ahmad, 47; Bariq Aslani Abdullah, 24; and Sahrol Afindi Sahanufin, 25.
No plea was recorded from them.
They were charged under Section 149 of the Penal Code and face the death penalty if convicted.
Magistrate Farah Azura Mohd Saad fixed May 26 for mention of the case pending completion of post-mortem, chemistry and forensic reports.
It was reported in the press that the fight was between two rival gangs with sharp weapons.
Ram Kumar, who was being held in connection with a kidnapping case in Klang last year, was stabbed in the melee.
He was a former national boxer and won a silver medal in the SEA Games three years ago.
