Explain mega projects clearly to people, state told

BUTTERWORTH: The Opposition in Penang wants the state government to provide a clear explanation at the next state assembly sitting of the mega projects it wants to implement.

State Opposition Leader Datuk Jahara Hamid claimed that many things about the mega projects such as the proposed undersea tunnel and land reclamation were still not clear.

The Teluk Air Tawar assemblyman claimed that most people were still unsure about these projects and the benefits they would bring.

“The state government needs to provide an explanation during the coming state assembly sitting which is expected to commence on May 10,” Jahara told reporters after lauching a bumiputera education roadshow called ‘Program Jelajah Pendidikan Bumiputera 2016’ at SMK Teluk Air Tawar here yesterday.

Asked about the proposal to limit the chief minister’s tenure to two terms, she said it would depend on whether the State Assembly Speaker approved the motion.

“I cannot state my stand on this issue as I need to discuss with my Barisan Nasional comrades,” she said, adding that others should be given the chance to be the chief minister if Penang practised demo- cracy.

Tanjung Bungah DAP assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu had recently submitted a motion to the legislative assembly to direct the state Constitutional Committee to study the possibility of amending the state constitution to limit the chief minister’s tenure to two consecutive terms.

On the education roadshow, Jahara said it would provide rural youths the opportunity to pursue studies in skill develop-ment.

She said Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia holders should take the opportunity by applying to educational institutions that offer skill development.

Jahara added that this would increase the youths’ chances of getting jobs.
