Moderate quake hits southwest Sumatera

KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck southwest of Sumatera at 4.20am Saturday, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

 MetMalaysia in a statement said the quake epicentre was 604km southwest of Siberut, Indonesia and 1,110km southwest of Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan.

The quake did not pose any tsunami threat, it said. - Bernama
