RM2.9mil in assets stolen from Datuk Seri’s home

PETALING JAYA: A man with a Datuk Seri title lost RM2.9mil worth of belongings, including 69 luxury watches and jewellery in an unlocked cupboard, when the house he rented was burgled.

He had just returned at about 4pm on Sunday after a two-day getaway when he noticed that the gate, front grille and sliding door had been pried open.

When he entered the house in Jalan Taming Kiri 5, Balakong, he found the place “ransacked and stuff scattered on the floor”.

“The man ran to the living room to check on the cupboard where he kept the valuables and found everything in it stolen,” said Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Willey Richard.

The watches were of the Rolex, Franck Muller, Richard Mille, Corum, Panerai Luminor, Audemars Piguet, Cartier, Hermes and Patek Philippe brands.

The thieves also took nine mobile phones and RM70,000 in cash.

ACP Willey said the residential area was guarded but there were no closed-circuit TV cameras or alarm system installed in the house.

“There were also no eyewitness, but we found five fingerprints and a DNA swab was done on one of the locks,” he said, adding that police believed it was the work of several burglars.

The victim was renting the premises, a corner-lot terrace house, because his home elsewhere was being renovated.

Police are on the lookout for anyone trying to sell or pawn luxury watches and have asked the public for assistance.
