PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak says he enjoys close relations with his deputy and has dismissed as “political fabrication” reports claiming that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will resign.
The Prime Minister said there was no truth at all to speculation on social media that Muhyiddin was on the verge of resigning.
He stressed that they were great team players.
“We have forged a good relationship and understanding,” Najib said in a statement issued yesterday.
The Prime Minister said Muhyiddin had always supported his policies and they had worked hand in hand to ensure the success of the national development and transformation agendas that had been outlined.
“And as Umno deputy president and Barisan Nasional deputy chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin has always stood by me with all the efforts taken to strengthen the party and the coalition.
“This is an ongoing effort, and there is still more to be done with his assistance,” he added.
The Prime Minister said that with Muhyiddin by his side, he had full confidence in facing all challenges in developing the country and helping Barisan Nasional regain the people’s confidence.
On Thursday, Muhyiddin quashed talk that he would be stepping down from the No. 2 post, stressing that he enjoyed good relations with his boss.
He also said that there were no discussions with Najib over his Cabinet post following talk of a reshuffle.
Muhyiddin said certain quarters were probably trying to pit him against Najib with the intention of destabilising Umno and Barisan.
