PETALING JAYA: What seemed to be just another night at home watching TV turned out to be quite a drama for a man who saw someone climbing over his gate to escape an attack.

“He jumped over the fence into my house compound while my family and I were watching TV. I was afraid for our safety, so I switched off the lights,” said the eyewitness, who declined to be named.

He said the man had earlier climbed over the gate of his neighbour’s double-storey terrace house in a bid to run away from the assailants.

The witness explained that he had also heard three gunshots being fired outside, followed by the sound of metal falling on the ground.

“I looked outside and saw a man kneeling in front of our altar before climbing over our gate to flee.

“A motorcyclist who happened to be in the neighbourhood offered him a ride to safety,” he said.

The witness said that there were traces of blood near the gate to his house. A .38mm bullet casing was also discovered.

Police have identified the man as B. Thiyagu, 26, and that he was critically injured after he was attacked by two men near Jalan 2/28 at PJ Old Town.

Thiyagu was on his way to work in a tyre factory when a car rammed into his motorcycle at about 10pm on Friday.

A man alighted from the vehicle and started attacking him with a parang, while the driver waited inside.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohamed confirmed receiving a report on the incident.

Among the items retrieved from the scene were a bloodstained parang and a beer bottle.
