COME on over to the Casuarina @ Meru Hotel this Sunday to enjoy a plate of Malaysia’s favourite breakfast - nasi lemak and a hot glass of teh tarik at only 57 sen each.
The special price is introduced in conjunction with the nation’s 57th Merdeka Day celebrations and will only be available one day.
And while you are there, it would also be worth checking out the cafe’s buffet offerings for breakfast, lunch and dinner which are available every day.
With breakfast served between 7am and 10.30am, lunch from noon to 2,30pm and dinner from 7pm to 10.30pm, there is always something cooking at the Casuarina @ Meru in Bandar Meru Raya, Ipoh.
The high tea is served on weekends between noon and 5pm instead of buffet lunch.
The breakfast and lunch menus boast of local flavours with a number of international dishes added while dinner is more of an international affair.
Mee kicap and curry noodles are part of the breakfast menu with the former being hailed a special dish here. Then, there is of course the continental breakfast selection with smoked beef slices, baked beans, cereals and fruits.
As for lunch and dinner, there are more than 50 dishes available at every meal to give the satisfaction of wholesome goodness to diners.
The chef’s recommendation is the roasted beef with spicy chocolate, a Mexican dish of succulent tenderloin served with a chocolate sauce spiced up with cili padi. This quite an interesting mix of the East and West as the savoury roast beef is flavoured with a sweet milky sauce and chilli.
Other main dishes which deserve to be mentioned are the crisp deep-fried spiced prawns and the meat curry which goes down well with the steaming hot rice.
More great selections would be the egg foo yong, lemon fried chicken and the fish curry.
The salad bar also deserves a mention with the mouth-watering array of fresh greens such as ulam and sambal belacan, crisp salads, ripe tomatoes and kerabu.
Give the bean kerabu which is a good blend of the sweet, spicy and savoury all in one mouthful, with the crunch of the fresh beans, a try. The pasta salad is also a delight, both for the eye and the palate.
Incidentally, one of the specials served at Casuarina @ Meru is the cucur udang – the famous recipe of Kak Rose, whom connoisseurs will recognise as one of the best of its kind around.
Crispy and light, right down to the last bite, every morsel is tasty and crunchy and when eaten with the specially-made chilli sauce, it makes for the perfect mouthful, any time of the day.
As for dessert, the freezer is filled with a variety of ice cream flavours which can be savoured in a cup or a cone, while ice kacang is also a must-have favourite. Others include fresh fruits, an assortment of kuih and little slices of cakes and cream puffs.
At the end of the day, to really appreciate what Casuarina @ Meru offers, one must try for themselves the dishes there.
At the price of RM18, RM25 and RM30 nett for breakfast, lunch and dinner respectively, it can be said that is one of the best buffet offerings in town indeed.
