JOHOR BARU: Two SMK Sultan Ismail students are just one win away from an all-expenses paid trip to Japan after beating serious competitors in the Johor-level Petrosains science show competition here.
Nur Husniena Izzaty Adnan and Siti Raudhah Rafiee, both 16, picked an interesting topic on Marine Science that proved to be a success as the teenagers beat 10 teams from other schools in the state.
The girls received RM500, certificates and a plaque.
Nur Husniena and Siti Raudhah will be representing Johor in the grand finals to be held in Putrajaya in October.
Nur Husniena said both of them agreed to choose Marine Science due to their deep interest in the subject.
“Marine Science is actually an interesting subject to learn but some don’t find it so.
“The marine world is an exciting system where all creatures in the sea play an important role in a very large eco-system and we chose Marine Science as we want to highlight it to other students,” she added.
She said this after receiving the awards at the Petrosains science show competition held at Johor Education Department headquarters here.
Meanwhile, Siti Raudhah said they would do all they could to make Johor proud in the grand finals.
“This victory actually spurred us even more for the finals and we will do whatever it takes to win.
“The competition will be harder as there will be other top science students coming from all over Malaysia.
“We have to work even harder and double our efforts to win the main prize as both of us really want to go to Japan,” she said, adding that she and Nur Husniena had been preparing for two months before the state-level competition.
The grand finals’ winners in Putrajaya will walk away with RM10,000, certificate, a medal, and a trip to Japan worth more than RM30,000.
