Sunway Property has been celebrating World Environment Day for three years now, by organising a range of sports activities, green workshops and events
SUNWAY Property will be organising its annual “Race for A Better Planet” campaign in conjunction with World Environment Day (WED).
As part of the company’s commitment to raise public awareness of the importance of creating sustainable environment, the campaign will be running a series of non-competitive cycling events coupled with interactive activities and workshops.
The company has been actively promoting WED for the past three years by organising a range of sports activities, recycling efforts, green workshops and DIY events.
Visitors to the green bazaar can buy earth-friendly products sold by vendors.
In the past year, the campaign has witnessed the participation of more than 3,000 people.
Sunway Berhad Property Development Division Malaysia and Singapore managing director Sarena Cheah said through the campaign’s fourth edition, the company hopes to get more green warriors to join forces and spread awareness for the planet’s sake.
“Through these interactive activities, we hope to bring the communities together and encourage them to adopt eco-friendly habits such as reducing the use of plastic bottles and taking lunchboxes instead of disposable containers.
“At the same time, we want to promote a healthy lifestyle via cycling and spending quality time with family and friends.”
The campaign, Cheah pointed out, is also in line with the company’s “Living Sunway, Living Community” concept to further engage and grow in tandem with the communities.
There will be two categories to the cycling events: the Fun Ride and Power Ride. The first is a much shorter cycling route compared with the latter.
There will also be workshops in which participants can learn about environmentally friendly planting, recycling and DIY efforts.
Families and individuals can join at a fee of RM25 per person, while parents can register a maximum of two children below 12 years of age for free under the Fun Ride category.
The cycling events will kick off at Sunway Property Penang and Sunway City Ipoh concurrently on May 7, followed by Sunway Iskandar Johor on May 14 and Sunway City in Selangor on May 21.
The distance for the routes at Sunway Property @ Anson, Penang are 6km and 40km; 2km and 12km at Sunway City Ipoh; 5km and 20km at Sunway Iskandar Johor; and 5km and 16km at Sunway City Selangor.
Registration closes on April 30 for Ipoh; May 3 for the Penang and Johor events; and May 8 for Selangor.
Each participant will get an event T-shirt, participating medal and goodie bag, as well as a meal and refreshments.
Even those who are not cycling can have their share of fun by visiting the green bazaars and enjoying performances that will be held throughout the event.
There are over 5,000 slots now open for registration at https://event.howei.com/event/race-for-a-better-planet-2017.
All proceeds will be channelled to Malaysian Environmental NGOs (MENGO) at the end of the campaign.
Race for A Better Planet 2017 is supported by Grab and Sunquick, whereby Grab will be giving away RM12,000 worth of prizes for lucky participants across four states.
Participants can connect via the hashtag #SunwayRFBP on social media.
The non-competitive cycling events are divided into the Fun Ride and Power Ride categories. Over 5,000 slots are now open for registration
