Longest-serving turf club chairman leads foundation to build RM20mil nursing home

Jeyaratnam, seen here at the Perak Turf Club, is the longest-serving chairman of a turf club in the history of racing in Malaysia.

Jeyaratnam said the RM20mil Lotus Age Care Nursing Home, although not a charitable home, would be a social enterprise benefiting YSIS which over the past 34 years, through its 11 rehabilitation centres, had rehabilitated 8,900 clients with some form of disability.

While still practising law, he and a few friends founded YSIS in 1982 after seeing the large number of disabled people on the streets. “They were sitting at street corners, sometimes without one leg or with a deformity in one hand.
