THE PEOPLE of Perak will see more affordable housing being built in the near future as the state government plans to provide at least 20,000 units of such homes by 2018.
Reiterating the state’s commitment to helping the common folk own home, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir stressed that this figure does not mean the state will stop after a certain number is reached.
“The building of affordable homes will be a continuous process over the years to come because our population is growing.
“As long as there is the need for affordable homes, we will continue to build them for lower- and middle-income families,” he told journalists after officiating DKLS Industries Bhd’s launching of a new clubhouse in the Ipoh Premier City project site in Ipoh on Saturday.
Zambry also said the state will be meeting with developers once every few years to work together in determining the suitable pricing for affordable homes.
“As you know, the right pricing constantly varies because it’s based on the market demands and other factors such as the prices of construction materials.
“From time to time, the state will have to review the pricing while protecting the interest of house buyers and developers at the same time,” he said.
Earlier during the officiating ceremony, Zambry spoke on the contributions made by DKLS through its Ipoh Premier City residential project.
The most noteworthy was the construction of a new bridge spanning Sungai Pari, which coss around RM2mil, built to replace the old bridge that was damaged in a severe flood in February 2012.
“The provision of this bridge link, known as the Ipoh Premier City-Sungai Pari Bridge, fulfils the social objective of connecting people.
“Other than residents living in Ipoh Premier City, motorists can travel freely between this area to Manjoi using this bridge,” he said, commending the efforts of DKLS for playing a role in assisting the state to solve problems related to infrastructure.
DKLS Chairman Datuk Ding Pei Chai and Managing Director Ding Poi Bor handed over a model of the bridge to Zambry as a symbolic gesture of the handing over of the bridge from the company to the state government.
The Ipoh Premier City is DKLS’ flagship development project in Ipoh, and is poised to become the siter of an “intelligent community,” or i-community, through a partnership with Telekom Bhd.
At the same event, the signing of an agreement between the developer and the telecommunications company, witnessed by Zambry, will see the development of a dedicated high-speed fibre-optic telecommunications infrastructure for the housing project.
At the event, Zambry launched the Genesis Clubhouse in Ipoh Premier City Phase One.
The clubhouse is equipped with facilities like a swimming pool, badminton hall, indoor gym, and hospitality services to cater to future residents.
Spread over a 63ha site, Ipoh Premier City is situated midway between Ipoh’s city centre and Bandar Meru Raya.
DKLS launched the project’s first phase in late 2014.
The phase called Genesis features six different unit types – the Abel townhouse, two different-sized double-storey superlink terraced houses called Bethel and Canaan, the Dan double-storey cluster semi-detached house, the Eve double-storey semi-detached house, and the Felizna two-and-a-half-storey bungalow.
The show units, open daily from 9am to 6pm, are accessible by entering via Taman Wing Onn off Jalan Kuala Kangsar, with McDonald’s on the left.
