Jessie Lee fans out the tarot cards which she uses to predict what the year has in store.
Jessie Lee fans out the tarot cards which she uses to predict what the year has in store.

The future is in the cards

To believers, a pack of cards can predict the future.

THE year 2015 will not be smooth sailing. It may require us to summon a lot of inner strength to achieve our goals. This is indicated by the Strength card, says Jessie Lee, founder of Soleil Trinity Resources, a Kuala Lumpur-based Chinese metaphysics consultancy.

This card is one of four cards (representing the four elements of air, earth, fire and water) drawn from the popular Rider-Waite tarot deck to predict what the year has in store.

The Strength card (Fire element) shows a woman trying to tame a lion which can be interpreted as “not an easy task”. This could also portend a difficult year ahead. The mountains on the card suggest obstacles.

Hence, Lee predicts that this year, “people will have to take calculated risks”.

Many people will begin to have a deeper awareness of themselves. They may ask: “Am I happy with what I’m doing? Am I doing it for the sake of meeting the expectations of others?”

According to Lee, the Star tarot card (Air element) refers to the system of how things work.

“The internal operations of a company may need to be evaluated to see if things are running smoothly. Issues involving staff may need to be addressed,” says Lee.

The Temperance card (Fire) shows someone experimenting with fluids, like a chemist in a laboratory. This card could suggest trials and errors, Lee explains, adding that it may indicate the discovery of new drugs or cures.

“It could even mean collaborations, partnerships and mergers,” she adds. On a negative note, experiments may go wrong and spell chemical disasters or explosions.

Lastly, the Emperor card (Fire) is about authority and strength.

“The ram heads on the throne relate to the Tui hexagram which is about communication,” explains Lee. It could mean that this year, communication is an important issue which can make or break us.

She advises: “Pay more attention to relationships as these can suffer if there is a communication breakdown. Try and patch things up (to avert separation or divorce). Talk to your partner and work towards a more fulfilling relationship.”

Lee explains that the year 2015 is associated with the number eight (add all the numbers in the year: 2+0+1+5=8).

“According to I Ching (Book of Changes), the number 8 relates to Ken gua which is a mountain hexagram,” says Lee. “It means that this year, one should look inwards and tread cautiously rather than move outwards aggressively. Know market trends or what the people want in order to have the upper hand.”

The Star card shows water being poured down. It is indicative of the economy’s downward spiral. But Lee feels that “no matter how bad the economy is, new tycoons will emerge as the Emperor star (or card) symbolises people taking charge. 2016 may be the lowest point in the global economy. There will be lots of mega sales. It’s time to seize the moment.”

This year, Lee says, the Fire and Water elements are strong as indicated by the tarot cards.

Strong Fire can impact Fire-related industries positively or negatively. It can also suggest global warming and the melting of ice as well as floods.

The Fire element relates to the heart. So people with heart problems need to go for check-ups.

The strong Water element is a cue for rampant floods.
