Stronger growth ahead for global semicon shipments


Silicon wafers are the fundamental building material for semiconductors, which in turn, are vital components of virtually all electronics goods, including computers, telecommunications products, and consumer electronics.

KUALA LUMPUR: Global silicon wafer shipments are set to increase by 2.4% year-on-year in 2020 to 11,957 million sq inches, according to the Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturers Industry (SEMI).

The US-based trade body said on Wednesday it expected growth to continue next year and shipments to reach a record high in 2022.
