Maxis, MDEC team up to build IoT ecosystem for businesses

KUALA LUMPUR: Maxis Bhd is working with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation's (MDEC) Internet of Things (IoT) solution providers to enhance the IoT ecosystem for businesses.

In a joint statement, Maxis said it would leverage on its IoT solutions and 4G network to work with MDEC to offer innovative solutions.

Among Maxis’ IoT offerings include mDrive, a fleet tracking solution which is used internally for its own business operations.

This tracking solution enables businesses to reduce cost and promotes safer driving habits within the fleet management of a company.

Maxis’ head of business solutions, enterprise Claire Featherstone said: “With Maxis’ proven track record in the IoT space and expertise via our partnership with Vodafone, solution providers that collaborate with us can potentially widen their customer base.

“Together, we can build awareness on the benefits of IoT solutions and bridge the gap between customers’ needs and the solutions available from partners.”

MDEC director, data economy division Dr Karl Ng said data technology adoption (IoT, Big Data Analytics and AI) is about creating value from data.

“And we are pleased to see the collaboration and sharing of experiences and insights for local and global IoT business opportunities which is in tune to MDEC’s mission to spur the growth of Malaysia’s digital economy.”

According to Vodafone’s annual IoT Barometer, a global survey, companies in Asia Pacific are gaining momentum with IoT adoption, faster than the global average; from just 12% in 2013 to 36% in 2017, compared to global IoT adoption of 29%.

APAC companies that have adopted IoT are seeing increased competitiveness and improved brand differentiation.

The IoT Barometer also highlighted that IoT adopters are digital leaders; 76% of these adopters are seen as one of the most innovative players in their market. Collaboration is also key to being successful in the IoT ecosystem and these solution providers can benefit by partnering with Maxis.
