KUALA LUMPUR: Mimos Bhd’s subsidiary, Mimos Semiconductor (M) Sdn Bhd (MSSB), has scored a breakthrough in the production of graphene wafer for advanced electronics applications.

In a statement on Wednesday, MSSB said the discovery would strengthen the local electrical and electronics (E & E) industry’s capability in moving up the value chain, with high value-added electronics and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

MSSB general manager/Mimos vice-president for electrical and electronics sector, Wan Azli Wan Ismail, said aside from its relatively low cost, the method used for the production resulted in high-purity graphene films (layers) to ensure high-quality resulting materials.

“This will be highly advantageous in the production of next-generation semiconductors, photodetectors, energy devices, flexible electronics and wearable nanosensors and devices.

“This breakthrough makes Mimos Semiconductor the first and only producer of eight-inch graphene wafer in Malaysia,” he said. - Bernama
