JOHOR BARU: U Mobile Sdn Bhd will spend about RM1bil for capital expenditure (capex) this year, with most of the budget going into the rollout of additional spectrum awarded by the government in 2016.
Chief executive officer Wong Heang Tuck said apart from the spectrum rollout, capex spending would also be allocated for enhancement of services to 4.5G.
“Our capacity will increase with the additional spectrum and our spectrum per user ratio is the highest in the market today in the country,’’ he said at the launch of the 4.5G service on 1800 and 2600 MHz.
The launch also saw the announcement of a collaboration with Huawei on the 4.5G service over the 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz spectra.
Wong said with the launch, the company became the first telco in Malaysia to commercially offer 4.5G service on 1800 and 2600 MHz.
He said after Johor Baru, subscribers in Ipoh, Penang and the Klang Valley could also look forward to experience a dramatic difference in their mobile experience this year.
