PETALING JAYA: Ho Hup Construction Co Bhd has bagged an RM58mil sub-contract for structure and bridge works at the West Coast Expressway.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Ho Hup said it had accepted the contract from Menuju Asas Sdn Bhd, which is the main contractor of Public Works Department, for upgrading works between Teluk Intan and Kg Lekir.
Ho Hup said the company would be responsible for all temporary, piling, substructure, superstructure and miscellaneous works related to the bridges.
It said the contract was for about 24 months and is expected to commence on May 9, 2016.
“The sub-contract is expected to contribute positively to Ho Hup group’s earnings for the financial years ending Dec 31, 2016, 2017 and 2018,” it said.
Shares in Ho Hup closed three sen lower to 84 sen at yesterday’s close.
In a separate filing, Ho Hup said it would pursue claiming about RM10mil from the company’s petition in relation to a claim against Woo Thin Choy for losses and damages.
The company had sued Woo, who is the company’s former project director, claiming that he had caused Ho Hup to suffer losses and damages of US$2.5mil and had breached his fiduciary, contractual and/or common law duties owed to the company.
On Aug 20, 2014, the Court of Appeal had allowed Ho Hup’s appeal and set aside the High Court’s decision and substituted it with an order that the defendant, Woo, pay the company US$2.5mil together with costs of RM50,000.
The defendant then filed an application for leave to appeal to the Federal Court against the Court of Appeal’s decision.
On April 7, 2016, the Federal Court dismissed the defendant’s leave application with costs of RM20,000.
“Hence, the defendant is to pay Ho Hup US$2.5mil together with the total cost of RM70,000,” the company said.
