According to ZDNet.com, Microsoft could soon reveal a first public beta version of its future operating system, known for now under the codename "Threshold." This first public version could be available in late September or early October.

The users who install that version, unstable by definition, will then have to install other automatic updates until the release of the final version of Windows 9, still expected for spring 2015.

In all likelihood, this new operating system taking over from Windows 8, which emerged in the fall of 2012, will offer a Start menu again.

Although unofficial, several screenshots have leaked these past few months confirming Microsoft's intention to return to this kind of menu after removing it. The operating system will work on both touchscreen and non-touchscreen devices.

The commercial launch of Windows 9 is expected in April 2015. On this occasion, it is thought that Microsoft might make all its products (PC, smartphones, tablets, game consoles...) converge towards a single system. — AFP/Relaxnews 2014
