If you love football then you will the upcoming Soccer Bot Challenge 2014 in which you control Lego robots to score your goals.

The team-based, two-vs-two robotic football competition is organised by Cyberview Sdn Bhd, the developer of the Cyberjaya township and local startup Terato Tech Sdn Bhd.

The EV3 robots, which will be provided by the organiser, can be controlled via Bluetooth from an iOS or Android device.

“The Soccer Bot Challenge provides an opportunity for the community to learn the principles and concepts of robotic convergence with mobile technology,” said Cyberview head of technology hub development division managing director Nazri Tumin.

“Through the competition we hope to build an interest in basic school subjects such as mathematics and science that leads to advance courses such as computer programming, network engineering, robotic engineering, mathematical sciences and more in colleges and universities,” he said.

The competition is divided into two categories — students (10-18 years old) and open (above 18 years). Each category will have 32 teams and the registration fee is RM100 per team.

The competition will be held on Sept 6 at the Multimedia University, Cyberjaya. Registration closes on Aug 29.

Cyberview plans to pursue more of such partnerships, as part of its commitment to community building efforts.

There are also ongoing weekly EV3 robotic classes for kids in the 9 to 4 age group. The class intends to expose young kids to science and engineering concepts which are meant for lower secondary school.
