Sevilla bringing Europa League cup to KL

PETALING JAYA: Newly-crowned champions Sevilla FC will parade the Europa League cup during their visit to Malaysia.

The Spanish club are scheduled to play Selangor in a friendly game at the Shah Alam Stadium on Monday.

FA of Selangor (FAS) deputy president Datuk Mokhtar Ahmad said the champions’ arrival with the Cup is an additional bonus for fans.

“It is a double treat for the fans besides witnessing one of Europe’s best teams in our backyard,” said Mokhtar on Thursday.

Sevilla are scheduled to arrive on Friday after their stopover in Indonesia, where they are playing Pelita Bandung Raya.

The public can view the cup at the Club Saujana, Subang, on Saturday from 4pm onwards.

Sevilla beat Benfica 4–2 on penalties in the Europa League final in Turin, Italy, on May 14.

Sevilla boss Unai Emery said they are looking forward to broadening their fan base in Malaysia.

“We are excited to come here and play against a top side like Selangor. The team are also looking forward to creating new fans, as well,” he said.

Tickets for the friendly match, priced at RM20, will be available at the Shah Alam Stadium from Sunday.
