Customs seizes container of imitation toys

CUSTOMS officers intercepted a container last week and found toys and other children’s accessories bearing popular comic book and cartoon characters such as Batman, Captain America, Spider-Man, Superman, Transformers, Barney, Care Bears and Hello Kitty.

The goods, packed tightly in 159 cartons and nine sacks, had arrived in a 12m container from Shenzhen, China, on May 20.

When enforcement officers unsealed it and inspected the items at the importer’s premises the next day, trademark-infringing goods were found.

Singapore Customs said the importer of the fake goods, which included toys that resembled Lego, had planned to distribute them to shops here. — The Straits Times / Asia News Network
