Cops record Mat Sabu’s statement

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded Mohamad Sabu’s (pix) statement over his involvement in the recent Bersih 4.0 rally.

The Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) chairman was at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters for about an hour from 11am yesterday.

“I was not informed of any wrongdoing but they told me I was called under the Peaceful Assembly Act,” he said.

Police are also investigating PAS’ Pokok Sena MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar for alleging that police were being used by the Prime Minister “to shut the mouths” of anyone who tried to reveal alleged wrongdoing involving 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police viewed the allegation seriously. He said Mahfuz should know that investigations into 1MDB were ongoing.

Mahfuz is being investigated over his statement that Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was using the police to arrest former Batu Kawan Umno vice-chairman Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan.

“Khairuddin has lodged police reports on this matter but instead of giving time for enforcement agencies to conduct investigations, he chose to use foreign legal channels, especially Hong Kong, France and the United States, with the intention to put international pressure on Malaysia,” said Khalid.

Khalid said it was clearly an act to challenge the Malaysian legal system by inviting foreign involvement in the country’s democratic system.
