KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar wants all parties to stop making statements on boycotting businesses over the price hike issue.
On his Twitter @KBAB51 page, Khalid said the statements could disrupt racial harmony in the country.
"Boycott issue, @PDRMsia ask all parties to immediately exercise restraint in making public statements. It hurts our racial harmony," he said.
Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had called on consumers to use their power to put pressure on wholesalers and traders who refused to lower the price of goods despite the drop in oil price, by boycotting their businesses.
He later clarified that his statement was a personal opinion and not directed at the Chinese community but at the profiteering businesses.
