Pallbearer sad uncle’s remains delayed

SEPANG: L/Klp Mohd Sadiq Zakariah had always wanted to do something for those who died in the MH17 flight. He was honoured when his chance came after he was chosen as a pallbearer for the remains of the victims.

However, Mohd Sadiq, from the Ceremonial Unit of the 1st Battalion Royal Malay Regiment (1 RAMD) was sad that the remains of his uncle, chief steward Mohd Ghafar Abu Bakar, were not among those that came home yesterday.

“When I was told I would be a pallbearer I really hoped to be the family’s representative to carry his remains, but sadly his remains have not arrived.

“I still hope for the chance should his remains be sent with the second group,” he said yesterday.

Mohd Sadiq was among those in the 1st Battalion RAMD involved in the ceremony honouring 20 victims of the MH17 tragedy.

This is the first time such an honour was given to civilians in a ceremony at the Bunga Raya Complex, which usually caters for the arrival and departure of government leaders and the King and Queen.
