KUCHING: A Bruneian runner died Sunday at the inaugural Kuching Marathon, falling unconscious within the first half of his run.
According to the police, the deceased was identified as Abdul Aziz Japar, 54.
Eyewitness said the Bruneian fell along Jalan Muhib here around 7am.
He was participating in the 5km category and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Sarawak General Hospital.
Abdul Aziz arrived in Kuching on Friday with his friends.
About 2,000 runners out of the more than 5,000 participants were foreigners.
Bruneians made up the majority of the overseas runners.
